The Harrisburg FCCLA chapter has been busy helping out in the community and participating in member fun events. To begin the year, the chapter began with its membership recruitment breakfast. This breakfast helped attract new members, so they can learn about the opportunities FCCLA has to offer. After this membership breakfast meeting, Harrisburg FCCLA began its community and chapter projects.
The first project that Harrisburg FCCLA engaged in was Halloween Boo Bash. On October 25th, members helped provide a variety of activities for elementary students to participate in. These activities included cookie decorating, witches’ hats ring toss, candy fishing, and other Halloween related festivities. During the Halloween Boo Bash, Harrisburg FCCLA also collected canned food items for the local food pantry.
On November 25th, FCCLA members participated in this year's annual lock-in. During this fun event, members had the opportunity to participate in fun games and activities with other FCCLA and FFA members.
In December, the Harrisburg FCCLA chapter continues to work on the Angel Tree project. This project helps deliver Christmas gifts to members in the Harrisburg School District that could not afford gifts otherwise. If you would like to contribute a donation or adopt a family, please contact Tracy Kern at tracy.kern@harrisburg.k12.sd.us.
Along with these projects, Harrisburg FCCLA is also participating in statewide projects through the South Dakota Current Trends Team. Kiana Sauer serves on the South Dakota Current Trends Team and is leading these projects. Each year, the team chooses a different focus. This year, the team’s focus is Teen Safety with three subtopics (Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Mental Health, and Traffic Safety). The Harrisburg FCCLA Chapter will reach out to the Harrisburg community involving these topics.
