The lesson of The Dot is simple but powerful: Everyone can be creative, and sometimes you just have to make a start. One small idea, one small attempt, or one small act of courage can lead to something much bigger. The story reminds our learners that mistakes are okay, creativity looks different for everyone, and we should never be afraid to try.
After reading the story, our learners put their own creative spin on Dot Day! They created colorful dots to add to our giant gumball machine in the hallway, completed dot-to-dot activities, designed their own bookmarks, created Dot Day flyers, and even tried to guess the number of gumballs in our hallway display!

A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Hoff, our EL teacher, for leading Horizon staff in learning the Jigsaw Chunking strategy! Teachers practiced how to use this strategy to help students better comprehend text, stay engaged, and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Our staff was ALL IN—and it was awesome to see the collaboration and learning happening!

To celebrate Homecoming, Harrisburg School District will dismiss students early on Friday, September 25, 2026, so students, staff, and families can attend the Homecoming Parade. Please plan accordingly for your student’s early release.
