Mr. Ellwein presented Paige Wright, teacher at South Middle School, who received Teacher of the Year from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The award is for the state of South Dakota at the secondary teacher level. Paige has been instrumental in creating a Veterans Club at South Middle School, but her work on a Veterans Day Program has been the highlight for our community. This event has grown over the past three years, with guest speakers and learners leading parts of the program. During the day, she also plans rotations for our learners, with Veterans invited to be part of them.
Harrisburg High School’s FFA Freshman Food Science team presented on their preparations for the Food Science Career Development Event (CDE). Through this experience, students learn about careers in the food and agriculture industry while developing skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. As part of the competition, the team created a snack product called Bloom & Dip, inspired by a Nutella-and-go-style snack. Their dip is made with sunflower butter and cocoa and highlights South Dakota commodities, including sunflowers, honey, and dairy through whey protein. We are proud of these students for representing Harrisburg FFA and exploring the science behind the foods we enjoy every day!

At tonight's board meeting, HHS’s eSports coaches provided an overview of the program and highlighted the team’s accomplishments. We currently have the second-largest eSports team in the state, with 16 players qualifying for the state competition. Beyond these impressive achievements, what truly sets eSports apart are the meaningful friendships and connections our students have built through their participation.

HHS participated in the SD Regional Art Wars Competition at USD on Friday with 22 artists competing. Payton Revell placed 1st in Photography and Ava Ellyson placed 1st in Painting. They will go on to compete at State! Congratulations to all students!
